Task 2. Analyze the plan.
For each item below, give examples from the plan and evaluate them. Address all four main questions. (I recommend 1-2 paragraphs on each, though you can decide where you want to focus. Use the additional questions as guidelines.)
A) How is nature valued in the plan?
For example, is the approach anthropocentric or non-anthropocentric, or a mix? If it’s a mix, explain. Holistic or individualistic?
B) Who is in control of the plan?
Who is considered “us” and who is considered “they” or “other”? Does the plan include traditionally marginalized groups, and how much autonomy and power do these groups have? (E.g., are these groups included as an “other,” or are these groups in charge?) How does the plan distribute risks & harms versus benefits to different groups of people? Do the harms, costs, and risks of harms fall on the same groups of people that have historically been disadvantaged, or is the distribution fair?
C) What is the role of humans in the plan?
Are humans seen as part of nature, or as separate? As a positive force, or solely as a destructive one?
D) Does the plan contribute to global sustainability?
What are the goals of the plan? Do you think these are goals worth working towards? Does the plan state sustainability as a goal? If not, are reasons given? How does the plan define sustainability? What, exactly, does the plan aim to sustain (if anything)? If the plan succeeds in its goals, will it be enough to achieve global sustainability?
