Types of Assessment in the HCI program

For the HCI Program, the way that you are assessed is through quizzes, discussion boards, and assignments. This paper is a general review of some of the types of assignments that you encounter in this program:

Quizzes: Quiz questions can be true/false, multiple choice (single answer or multiple answers), fill in the blank or multiple blanks, drop-down answers, essay questions, matching, and numerical/mathematic answers. Before launching a quiz, review if it has a time limit and if there are retries available.

Discussion Boards: May be used to elaborate on a question or issue, practice a skill, apply to past experience or respond to a video. Review the discussion prompt for response requirements or additional due dates. Typically when an instructor requires that students comment on another student's post, the post will have an earlier due date. When submitting an answer to the discussion board, students should submit a paragraph. (link to paragraph)

Assignments: There are a variety of assignments in the HCI program and this categorizes most of the assigned work.

Format of Assigned Work. This module will cover the types of document formats that will be used in the HCI program:

  • SBAR w/executive summary. This is primarily a problem-solving tool where students need to use critical thinking skills to identify a problem, use an analytic tool or root cause to review and propose a recommended solution. SBAR stands for Situation, Background, Analysis, and Recommendations. The executive summary is a concise summary of the detailed SBAR see link for expanded
  • 4-Box Report. A full document with an introduction, supporting paragraphs, and conclusions. Examples include case studies, field study project
