Dear Students,

Welcome to ENGL 101. My name is Dr. Booth and I am your professor for this quarter. Some things to know about me are that I have a BA in Painting & Printmaking (Virginia Commonwealth University); an MFA in Creative Writing, Poetry (Arizona State University); and a Ph.D. in Creative Writing, Poetry (University of Southern California). I am a published author and I have been teaching college for over a decade. I am excited to be your teacher for this course and look forward to the insights you will all bring to our class community.

It's important for you to know that everything we do in this class has a purpose and is a skill that you are nurturing in order to work towards the completion of the essays we write. The skills you practice in this class will also serve you outside of class, in your daily lives.

This course is self-driven and is interactive. There will be work Monday through Friday (occasionally over the weekends). You must complete all the daily readings and also read and respond to each others' posts in order to receive full credit for your own assignment. Every assignment builds off of the previous one. Nothing is meant to be busy-work.

I look forward to watching you flourish in this class. Everyone can pass with a satisfying grade if you stay on top of the work and do your best. I have designed the course that way.
